The Special Education Aide (Paraprofessional) provides instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to students with identified learning differences, disabilities, or other educational needs. Under the direction of classroom teachers and designated support personnel, the aide assists students in accessing curriculum, participating in classroom activities, developing independence, and achieving academic and personal goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support
- Provide one-on-one and small-group instructional support as directed by teachers.
- Assist students in understanding and completing classroom assignments.
- Reinforce academic concepts and learning strategies introduced by the teacher.
- Support students in developing organizational, study, and self-advocacy skills.
- Encourage student independence while providing appropriate assistance.
Behavioral and Social-Emotional Support
- Implement behavior support plans and classroom management strategies as directed.
- Assist students in developing positive social skills and appropriate peer interactions.
- Support students in managing emotions, transitions, and daily routines.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
Classroom Assistance
- Prepare instructional materials, visual aids, and classroom resources.
- Assist with accommodations and modifications as outlined in student learning plans.
- Support classroom activities, assessments, projects, and use of educational technology.
- Supervise students during classroom transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and other school activities as assigned.
Communication and Collaboration
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and support personnel to meet student needs.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and educational records.
- Provide observations and feedback to classroom teacher(s) regarding student progress and needs.
- Participate in meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
Faith Formation and School Mission
- Support and model Catholic values and Christian behavior.
- Participate respectfully in school liturgies, prayer services, and faith-based activities.
- Foster a caring environment that reflects the dignity and worth of every person as a child of God.
- Uphold the mission, philosophy, and policies of the school and parish.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree, paraprofessional certification, or coursework in education, child development, special education, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly students with diverse learning needs, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of child development and learning differences.
- Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities and backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Patience, flexibility, compassion, and a collaborative spirit.
- Basic proficiency with educational technology and office software.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout the school environment.
- Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and other school settings.
- Ability to assist students and carry materials as needed.
- Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, bending, and sitting for extended periods.
Working Conditions
- School-based environment with regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, and parents.
- Exposure to typical classroom and playground conditions.
- Work schedule follows the school calendar and assigned hours.

The Special Education Aide (Paraprofessional) performs other duties as assigned by the Principal to support the mission and operation of the school.

This position has an hourly range of $20.00 - $25.00. An employee’s pay within the hourly range will be based on many factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
