How we verify jobs

A “ghost job” is a posting that is still up but no longer real — already filled, never funded, or left running to collect résumés. They are the reason applying feels like shouting into a well. Keeping them off this board is the entire point of VeritaHire, so here is exactly how we do it — including where the method stops.

The short version. We take jobs from employers’ own systems, not from other job boards. We keep re-reading those systems, and the moment a job stops appearing, we drop it. Nothing you can browse here has gone unconfirmed for more than 21 days — and 98% of it was confirmed within the last three days.

1. We only take jobs from the employer

Every listing comes from the employer’s own applicant-tracking system or their careers page — employer career sites, ukg, Workable, Greenhouse, Workday, Ashby, Lever and SmartRecruiters. We do not re-list other job boards, and we do not buy feeds from aggregators. That matters for a plain reason: a copy of a copy is how a filled job stays online for months. Reading the source means the employer’s own “this role is closed” reaches you.

It is also why every listing sends you to the employer to apply. There is no middle step where we collect your application and forward it later — you apply where they actually read applications.

2. We keep re-reading, and drop what disappears

Harvesting once is easy; the work is in re-reading. We continuously re-pull the employer feeds and careers pages we track and mark each listing with when we last saw it still posted. When a job stops appearing at its source, it comes off the board.

In the last seven days that removed 108,122 listings.

Anything we have not re-confirmed within 21 days stops being browsable — that limit is enforced by the query behind every search, not by good intentions. Most of what you see is far fresher than the limit: 93% of browsable jobs were confirmed at the source within 24 hours, and 98% within three days.

Being straight about the edge: “re-checked” means we confirmed the job still appears in the employer’s own listings — not that we phoned the hiring manager. An employer who leaves a filled role posted can still fool us, and them. What we can promise is that when it comes down at the source, it comes down here.

3. Some postings never make it on

Being real is not the same as being a job worth your afternoon. Before a listing can appear we drop:

When we pull from an employer’s own careers page, we treat every role as unproven until we have fetched that page and found the job on it. Titles we cannot confirm stay hidden rather than getting the benefit of the doubt — 591 are sitting in that state right now.

4. Employers can't post anonymously

The other half of honest hiring. Before a business can publish its first job here it has to confirm both a working email address and a real phone number — no anonymous posting, and no posting by a script. 6,340 employers are hiring on the board today. We're being straight about the limit of that: it proves someone reachable stands behind the posting, not that we have audited the company. Deeper business verification is what we're building next, and this page will say exactly what it checks the day it ships — not before.

What this does not promise

We will not tell you every posting here is guaranteed open this minute, because nobody honestly can. Hiring is not a live inventory system; an employer can fill a role Tuesday and take the posting down Friday. What we promise is a board where the odds are not stacked against you: real employers, real openings, checked at the source, dropped when they die — and no one profiting from your wasted application.
