This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.

Nature of Work : This position will serve as a Project Manager within the Traffic Engineering Design Division (TEDD), managing the design efforts associated with traffic control devices (TCDs) for complex and/or innovative highway and geometric improvement projects.

Responsibilities include managing and overseeing the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates. The position also oversees licensed engineering consultants performing the design of TCDs (i.e., traffic control signals, roadway signing, pavement markings, lighting, etc.) and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for large and complex projects.

The incumbent serves as TEDD's liaison for key projects within the Highway Design and Bridge Design Divisions, as well as District Project Development efforts, to coordinate engineering design, plans, specifications, and estimates related to all traffic control devices.

This position is responsible for overseeing transportation engineering projects, including the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of Maryland's roadways, bridges, parking facilities, and environmental programs (i.e., noise barriers, wetland mitigation, and stream mitigation).

The individual in this position manages numerous projects, ensuring design conformance with all Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) standards and procedures, and participates in scheduled reviews and partnering meetings.

The engineer working in this capacity is responsible for the timely submission of plans, specifications, and estimates. MDOT offers a generous and competitive benefits package.

MINIMUM

QUALIFICATIONS: Education : Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university .

Experience : Two (2) years of experience in professional engineering.

Preferred

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess the following: Experience managing transportation engineering projects involving traffic control devices, including traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, lighting, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Experience reviewing and preparing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for transportation projects. Experience coordinating with consultant firms, contractors, utility companies, and government agencies.

Experience applying MUTCD, Maryland MUTCD, AASHTO, ADA, and SHA design standards. Experience using MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and related engineering software.

Notes: 1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education. 2.

Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineers in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements.

Licenses & Certifications Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland. Additional Information Special Requirements Ability to travel statewide to conduct field reviews, attend meetings, and inspect project sites.
