Full job description

KIPP Texas is currently seeking a smart, motivated and experienced data analyst to bring strong problem-solving and analytical skills to a leading charter management organization. KIPP Texas is committed to using data to drive academic, financial, instructional, operational and talent improvement and decision-making. The Data Analyst is critical to KIPP Texas achieving this work.

This individual must be as much a people person as a numbers person - collaboration and building strong cross-functional partnerships are necessary to be successful in this role. Note: The team's existing BI tool is Tableau and we will be transitioning to Power BI by January 2027. This position reports to the Senior Director, Analytics, Research & Evaluation and follows a hybrid schedule (coming to our SSP office in Houston 3 days a week; and work from home 2 days a week).

This role is expected to travel to other regions and/or sites 5%-10% of the year.

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data models and interactive dashboards within Microsoft Power BI, utilizing advanced features like Power Query (M) and DAX for transformation and complex calculations.

- Support the successful migration of current reporting assets from Tableau to the Power BI platform, including data source verification, report recreation, and establishing data validation protocols.

- Work directly with school administration and organizational leadership across all of our regions (Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio) to ensure Power BI tools and processes meet the needs of our end-users.

- Ensure data quality and governance by rigorously testing, validating, and performance-tuning Power BI reports and underlying data models for accuracy and optimal load times.

- Implement and manage security within the Power BI Service, including configuring Row-Level Security (RLS) and managing user access and deployment across workspaces.

- Scope end-user requirements and project plan for advanced interactive and dynamic data visualizations in partnership with organizational stakeholders to meet functional needs.

- Contribute to our internal team's knowledge management systems, documentation practices, and code review process to ensure that we build and maintain infrastructure sustainably.

- Execute complex ad-hoc data requests using SQL and other query languages to provide timely insights.

- Develop, and provide training to leadership and key stakeholders on the use, manipulation, and analysis of interactive data visualizations in Power BI.

- Support leadership by transforming large, complex, and disparate data sources into clear, actionable analysis and insights that drive strategic priorities.

- Lead assessment reporting to major stakeholders including our Academics Department, Chiefs Team, and School Management Team (Regional Superintendents, Heads of Schools, etc.).

- Partner with departments and school staff to plan and prioritize short-term and long-term analytics needs.

- Collaborate with the Data Systems Team to refine data warehouse architecture and ETL/ELT processes to ensure data integrity and optimize data ingestion for BI consumption.

- Contribute to team growth and data literacy by participating in peer knowledge sharing, supporting internal documentation, and providing ad-hoc training sessions to colleagues.

- Proactively engage in professional development to maintain expertise in Microsoft Power BI and related data technologies, including new releases and features.

- Support high-priority, cross-functional strategic projects as directed by the Senior Director, Analytics, Research & Evaluation.

- At least 2-4 years of analytics experience, with a preference for candidates who have worked in the public sector or similar mission-driven environments.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including expertise in report design, data modeling (star schema), and development of complex calculated measures using DAX and Power Query (M).

- Mastery of SQL for complex querying, data extraction, and deep understanding of relational databases and data warehousing concepts (e.g., normalization, schema design).

- Experience working within the Azure Data Ecosystem and an understanding of ETL/ELT processes to move and transform data for analytics.

- Proficiency with Tableau is preferred due to the ongoing transition/migration project.

- Strong background in statistical analysis required, with proficiency in Python or R

- Proven ability to work with large, disparate datasets, ensuring data cleaning, validation, and manipulation are rigorous and efficient.

- Strong written and oral communication skills, specifically the ability to translate complex data findings and technical requirements into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.

- A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven culture and a commitment for the students we educate.

- Experience working with a team and collaborating effectively with cross-functional stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Academics, School Leaders)

- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

- The person in this position needs to be able to move about inside and outside the school throughout the workday.

- The candidate is expected to attend conferences, meetings and training sessions both virtually and in person within the Region.

- Reliable transportation is needed for travel between campuses

- Hybrid work - Reports to the central office or schools three days a week
