To assist the registered nurse in providing health services for students and staff in the Gadsden Independent School District. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned.
Provides basic first-aid and emergency care to students and staff as directed by the Registered Nurse. Follows established GISD and Department of Health (DOH) guidelines.
Recognizes the significance of the emergency situation. Assist the Registered Nurse as needed. Provide basic first aid and care until the nurse, parent, or EMS arrives to assume responsibility for care.
Assists the nurse in performing student health screenings including hearing, vision, height, and weight. Assists with medication administration Assist with student self administration of medication in accordance with GISD policy and DOH guidelines.
Maintains health records on all students Document health information, as indicated by the school nurse, in the student health record. Documentation is accurate, timely, and when hand written legible.
Understand and maintains confidentiality. Responds constructively to supervision Accepts and uses constructive criticism. Responds to informal observations positively.
Takes initiative to meet and solve problems as they arise. Relates positively to students, parents, and staff. Is cooperative, congenial and fair.
Exercises emotional control. Exhibits concern for feeling and opinions. Is tactful and discreet.
Promotes a positive image of Nursing Services Is prompt and courteous.
Maintains a clean and healthful environment in the assigned school(s). Restocks school nursing office as needed. Keeps area clean.
Cleans equipment, recovery cots, and work surfaces at the end of each day.
Works with assigned Registered Nurse(s) in a team approach. Coordinates daily work activities with Registered Nurse. Notifies Nursing Administration, in advance, of absence and makes a courtesy call to the assigned nurse.
Communicates relevant information related to student and staff health with the Registered Nurse. Follows instructions and completes task in a timely and professional manner.
Participates in program(s) for staff development. Maintains current certification in CPR and First Aid. Attends trainings and in service programs as assigned or needed.
Attends staff meetings and notifies the Director of Nursing and Health Services when unable to attend. Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS CPR Certified First Aid Certified Supplemental Information LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
