Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Operational Applications & Platforms

In this role, you’ll go beyond implementation to drive technical direction, shape system architecture, and influence cross-functional strategy. You’ll partner closely with product, design, QA, and operations to deliver robust, full-stack solutions spanning fleet monitoring, in-vehicle visualization, and real-time ride operations.

You’ll also play a key role in mentoring engineers, raising engineering standards, and guiding complex projects from concept through deployment. Your work will have a direct and visible impact on both the day-to-day performance and long-term evolution of Zoox’s autonomous platform. • Architect & own mission-critical systems
• Lead the design and development of full-stack platforms that power real-time vehicle monitoring, operational tooling, and live rider support across our autonomous fleet.
• Set technical direction across the stack
• Act as a technical leader spanning frontend, backend, and infrastructure, driving architecture decisions that ensure scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
• Lead through influence and mentorship
• Elevate the team by guiding design discussions, providing high-quality code reviews, and mentoring engineers to raise the overall technical bar.
• Drive cross-functional innovation
• Partner closely with product, design, and operations to identify high-impact opportunities and deliver solutions to complex, real-world challenges in autonomous mobility.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience), with 12+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, including experience building applications with Node.js, HTML, and CSS
• Deep understanding of modern web technologies and architecture, including performance, scalability, and maintainability considerations
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as Vue, React, or Svelte, with an eye toward building intuitive, high-quality user interfaces
• Proven ability to design and architect large-scale, full-stack systems, paired with strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively drive alignment and execution across cross-functional teams

• Experience with Python or C++
• Experience with 3D graphics, especially in a web context.
• Familiarity with robotics and 3D spatial reasoning.
