Public Service Worker (PSWII) - Building Services (FT)

Position Summary Brooklyn Park Local 49 members will be given priority placement in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement at five (5) days. This position supports the Public Works Department, Building Maintenance Division and provides for the operation, repair and maintenance of Public Buildings; City Hall, Police Stations, Fire Stations and Public Works Facilities; to include mechanical systems, refrigeration equipment and the implementation of the preventative maintenance program.

Provides high levels of customer service to both internal and external customers. Coordinates with vendors and contractors for the completion of projects. Procures needed supplies for daily operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform skilled work in building maintenance tasks. Perform routine and emergency maintenance repairs. Observe and assist with the coordination of project records and maintenance records.

Coordinate, observe, lead, and assist with departmental projects. Assist in monitoring and overseeing contractors. Conduct inspections, maintain records, and perform maintenance to ensure infrastructure is safe, operational and in neat appearance.

Follow up on concerns and other matters of public interest related to City infrastructure. Assist with the planning of annual division/section tasks, projects, and activities. Coordinate and lead divisional work crews to perform departmental and division system operations and maintenance as defined by position step qualifications list. perform manual labor as required.

Perform maintenance of building interiors, exteriors, and building mechanical systems. Perform custodial maintenance as needed in buildings. Perform general grounds maintenance and landscaping as needed.

Perform snow and ice control operations, with primary responsibility of sidewalks; may also assist with parking lots. Perform routine minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Receive, coordinate and respond to requests and work orders.

Respond and provide assistance in emergency or essential operations for all Public Works divisions. Perform standby duty on a scheduled rotation. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications Education High school graduate or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. Experience Two (2) years of work experience in non-janitorial building maintenance.

Licenses/Certifications Valid driver's license (Class 'D' or higher). Minnesota Special boilers license within six (6) months of hire. Must obtain Grade C boilers license within eighteen (18) months of acquiring Special boilers license.

CPR certification within two (2) years of hire Equivalency An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to successfully complete a physical examination, including passing a drug test. Ability to work weekends, holidays, outside of regularly scheduled hours, as needed.

Ability to comprehend and execute written and oral instructions. Ability to be cross trained in the divisions: Park Maintenance, Street Maintenance, and Utility Maintenance. Ability to perform maintenance and repair tasks in one or more of the following divisions: Park Maintenance, Street Maintenance, and Utility Maintenance.

Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, bending, climbing, reaching overhead, pushing, and pulling. Ability to perform job responsibilities in climatic extremes common to Minnesota. Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets or exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction.

Possess a valid Minnesota Class "A or B" Commercial Driver's License. Possess a universal refrigeration license. Three (3) years of experience non-janitorial building maintenance.

Experience in repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment. Successful completion of postsecondary coursework in building maintenance or HVAC. Experience working with computerized building controls systems.

Previous experience snow removal, sidewalks and parking lots. Two (2) + years of experience working in a municipal setting. Ability to comprehend and execute written and oral instructions.

Ability to be cross-trained in the parks, streets and utility maintenance divisions. Ability to perform maintenance and repair tasks to public buildings. Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Lao or Vietnamese language(s). Core business hours are set by departments based on operational needs. Alternative schedules can be arranged, but must comply with the City's Alternative Work Arrangement policy. Monday - Friday, normal office hours with occasional evenings.

Some travel occasionally to other locations. This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to manipulate, handle or feel, frequently requires sitting, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, night vision and peripheral vision.

Visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts. Use of measuring devices, assembly, or fabrication of parts within arms-length. Ability to operate machines, motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.

Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is in a moderately noisy location. Background Check The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check are necessary for this job title.

Position is subject to be assigned to one of the following work schedules: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Monday-Thursday, 2:30 - 11:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.

It is anticipated that after successful completion of required training, the regular work schedule will be one of the two afternoon/evening shifts subject to seniority bidding. Anticipated Hiring Wage: $36.41 per hour, plus full-time employee benefit package per Local 49 labor agreement.
