Job Summary:

At Disney Theatrical Group, we strive to create a culture of innovation, inclusion, collaboration, and creativity. Stories shape how we see ourselves and everyone around us. As storytellers, we have the power to not only uplift and inspire, but also to champion the spectrum of voices in our world. If you want to help tell compelling and enduring stories through live theater, we want to hear from you.

Disney Theatrical Group (DTG) is seeking Teaching Artists (TAs) to join its Education & Audience Engagement team. DTG TAs are professional theatre artists and educators who facilitate workshops, musical theater residencies, and professional development seminars for learners of all ages and backgrounds. DTG’s current educational programming supports its Broadway shows, national tours, and its catalogue of educational musicals created expressly for young performers. Candidates should have a passion for engaging others in the artistry and life lessons of theatre-making. DTG is specifically looking to hire TAs with experience directing, music directing, and/or choreographing productions with young people.

This is a part-time, recurring position. Work fluctuates based on season and TA availability.

TA responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching school staff the artistic roles of musical production (Director, Choreographer, Music Director, or Stage Manager); first by modeling, then by team-teaching, and finally through coaching with public elementary and middle school students through the Disney Musicals in Schools program. We are specifically seeking teaching artists who can guide educators on two or more of these roles, with required capacity to teach either music or dance.
  • Team teaching musical theater workshops using a provided curriculum based on our Broadway shows for groups of all ages from around the world. Workshops include: Movement & Music, Spotlight on Singing, Spotlight on Dancing, Business of Show Business, and the Art of Puppetry.
  • Facilitating talkbacks (post-show Q&As with cast and crew) for audiences at The Lion King, Aladdin, and any future Disney on Broadway shows.
  • Collaborating with Education & Audience Engagement staff and fellow TAs to develop curriculum and educational resources available to a global audience.
  • Facilitating or supporting Audience Engagement events and activations throughout the city.
  • Facilitating professional development workshops for classroom teachers and school administrators.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development with the Teaching Artist ensemble.
Additional Info:

DTG is committed to providing the highest quality opportunities for the widest group of talented professionals throughout their career trajectory.

The pay rate for this role in New York is $42.43 to $90.17 per hour. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors. Select benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
