While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
Primary Duties

- Drive government vehicle to post office to pick up inbound mail.
- Catalog and sort inbound mail for distribution.
- Account for trackable mail.
- Deliver inbound mail to various mailstops at NIST/NOAA/NTIA facilities.
- Pick up outbound mail from various NIST/NOAA/NTIA Mailstops and process outbound distribution.
- Research unknown mail and identify recipients.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist Warehouse staff with inbound shipments as needed.
- Assist Warehouse Staff with accounting for trackable packages as needed
- Operate NOAA Mailroom with customer service in mind.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
- High school diploma, or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
- Preferred one-year experience in related field.
- Preferred experience working in a mail center.
- Valid and current Driver’s license is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to perform routine tasks in all classes of mail. Must be able to work on repetitive tasks for long periods with minimum supervision.
- Must be able to stand, reach, push and pull and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to make minor decisions regarding mail issues/questions. Lifting requirements in accordance with contract specifications.
- Preferred experience in UPS and Federal Express shipping and procedures.
- Preferred knowledge of U.S Postal regulations in the process of dealing with incoming, outgoing, certified, registered, insured and express mail.
- Experience in operating various mailroom machines.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office software and accountable mail tracking system. Basic typing skills.
