We are seeking a motivated SME - Principal Lead Design Engineer to contribute to our mission supporting our work at Savannah River National Lab in Aiken, SC .

To Learn More Visit: http://www.geosyntec.com/careers/ . Essential Duties and Responsibilities SRNL Operations & Facilities Engineering is needing to increase engineering resources to support growth in project and facilities engineering and counterbalance current attrition rates.

We are exploring utilizing a subcontracted type of model in leu of direct hires. This will hopefully not only allow for immediate use of resources, but also support surge support in are most critical and vulnerable area for growth, infrastructure project design engineering for modernization of our facilities in support aging and expanding infrastructure.

The ideal candidates would already be experienced in SRS Conduct of Engineering requirements to include Design Authority experience. The critical resource need includes electrical (e.g. power and I&C experience) and mechanical (ventilation/HVAC & piping experience) engineers.

The main duties include, but are not limited to: Engineering analysis, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.

Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems. Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results.

Give quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks. Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems.

Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.

Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.

Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new applications of existing engineering or scientific principles.

Evaluate the results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations. Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.

Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.

Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management. Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.

Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies. Education and Licensure BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

Candidate must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.

Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.
