With an annual budget of over $905 million and 2,158 budgeted positions along with over 5,120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management, information technology, environmental, administrative, purchasing and contracting.

ISD's commitment is to provide Speed, Reliability, and Value. Essential Job Functions Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs communications antennas, wind deflectors, radio frequency reflectors, waveguides, raceways, and cables, and fabricates and assembles mounting hardware.

Performs structural maintenance of tall steel towers; occasionally erects small towers. Installs, maintains, and repairs telephone poles, cross arms, pole fixtures, guy wires, and communications conductors.

Pulls, splices, and repairs underground communications cable up to 2700 pairs. Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs underground duct systems, fiber optic cabling systems, and emergency communication systems.

Installs and maintains electrical service drops and occasionally repairs high-voltage power lines. Trims trees around communications sites, equipment, and along communication lines.

Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites, including vehicles exceeding 26,000 lbs. GVW.

Requirements Requirements to Qualify: Option I: Completion of a recognized telephone or power line worker apprentice training program* of at least three years duration -AND- completion of the Competent Tower Climber and Rescuer certification from an OSHA approved / ANSI Z359 compliant training program. -OR- Option II: Three years of experience in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of communications towers or power lines and equipment, one year of which must have been at the journey-level** -AND- completion of the Competent Tower Climber and Rescuer certification from an OSHA approved / ANSI Z359 compliant training program.

License: A class B license is required to perform essential job-related functions. A California Class B Driver License is required at the time of appointment.

Successful applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment.

Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job.

License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked. Physical Class : IV - Arduous. Involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces; and occasionally requires extraordinary physical activity.

REQUIREMENTS: Vision: Vision and color perception must be adequate to effectively and safely perform essential job-related functions. People at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.

Additional Information Our Assessment Process: If you meet the requirements, we will invite you to participate in a structured interview covering training, knowledge and experience, safety procedure and interpersonal skills weighted at 100%.
