Full job description

Picksy is our next-generation product discovery platform connecting shoppers with the things they love across thousands of retail partners. Users save, organize, and share products they're excited about - and our platform turns those signals into a deeply personalized shopping experience. This team owns the foundational product data, services, applications, and integrations that power the Picksy experience.

In-office Expectations: This position offers remote work flexibility; however, if you reside within a commutable distance to one of our offices in New York, Des Moines, Los Angeles, Seattle, or Edmonton, the expectation is to work from the office three days per week.

____________________________________________________________________________________________

As a Senior Software Engineer on Picksy Services, you'll take ownership of solution design and implementation for scalable, highly available services, while mentoring other engineers and helping shape the team's technical direction. You'll work closely with product owners, designers, and fellow engineers to translate requirements into prototypes and world-class features, and you'll be a go-to voice on architecture decisions and best practices across the team.

- Partner with engineers across data, web, and mobile experiences to build and evolve the foundational services powering Picksy.

- Design and implement new services, APIs, and operational monitoring functions.

- Own production services end-to-end - investigating issues, resolving bottlenecks, and proactively identifying opportunities to improve reliability and reduce cost.

- Lead code reviews and mentor other engineers, setting the bar for code quality and advocating for best practices across the team.

- Drive the identification and prioritization of technical debt.

- Provide thorough, readable documentation for the services you own.

- Partner with engineers across the org to establish and align on shared best practices.

- Bring strong technical judgment to ambiguous problems, and deliver high-quality, complex services under tight timelines.

Feature implementation: Work closely with stakeholders, product owners, and tech leadership to plan and create new services, features, and enhancements.

Architecture: Lead technical design of new and expanding systems; drive identification and prioritization of technical debt; proactively identify opportunities to improve reliability and reduce cost.

Maintenance: Own production services end-to-end; investigate, troubleshoot, and implement fixes for bugs and operational issues.

Review, Mentorship & Testing: Lead code reviews and mentor other engineers, setting the bar for code quality; work closely with quality-assurance engineers to facilitate feature testing and contribute to automated test coverage.

Requirements Analysis: Consume non-technical user stories, providing feedback when necessary, translating into technical documentation, and/or using as a basis for implementation.

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or relevant industry experience.

You have practical knowledge of modern development techniques and trends, and you are eager to continue learning. You have:

- Demonstrated deep understanding of REST, service architecture, monitoring, and the tenets of horizontal scalability.

- Experience developing complex and highly available services running in a production environment with SLAs.

- Extensive knowledge of object-oriented and functional software design patterns, including those commonly used within large web application platforms.

- Proven experience developing and owning production services and applications deployed in AWS or GCP, leveraging containers, continuous integration, and codified infrastructure.

- Extensive experience using Node.js, TypeScript, and the NestJS framework, with some knowledge of Java and GraphQL.

- Familiarity with HTML/CSS and frontend web frameworks such as Vue or Nuxt (preferred).

- Knowledge of NoSQL data stores, graph databases, indexing, distributed locking, media transformation, and search engines such as Elasticsearch or Solr.

- Experience working in an Agile environment, translating user stories into technical tasks and estimating effort effectively.

- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

- Experience leading architecture discussions, advocating for your approach, and mentoring team members.

- Motivation to learn new technologies and grow as a developer.

Pay Range Salary: New York: $150,000 - $175,000 Remote US: $140,000 - $165,000
