Our summer internships are full-time ( 40 hours /week), paid positions lasting 10- 11 weeks .

Interns may support one or more engineering areas based on business need, candidate background, and location availability. Examples of work in each area are listed below.

- Support design, development, analysis, and testing of engineering solutions during research and product development phases.

- Contribute to system integration, verification, validation, risk analysis, and data-driven evaluation efforts.

- Support safety testing, regulatory compliance, and transfer of products from development into manufacturing.

- Gain exposure to how new medical technologies move from early concepts through validation and manufacturing readiness.

- Apply engineering fundamentals to real design, testing, and system-level challenges.

- Understand how safety, quality, and regulatory requirements influence engineering decisions.

- Design and support manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment, machining, and material handling.

- Provide technical and sustaining engineering support within manufacturing environments, including equipment and process improvements.

- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, efficiency, and production yield.

- Learn how products are built, assembled, and scaled for full-scale manufacturing.

- See how engineering decisions directly impact production efficiency, cost, and output.

- Gain hands-on experience solving process and equipment challenges in a manufacturing setting.

- Develop, apply, and maintain quality standards and protocols for materials, components, and finished products.

- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to support quality requirements and compliance.

- Support reliability studies, data analysis, and evaluation of design or test methods to achieve product reliability targets.

- Understand how quality systems and standards help ensure medical products are safe and compliant.

- Work cross-functionally to support quality and reliability across the product lifecycle.

- Build experience using data, testing, and process evaluation to support engineering decisions.

Most internship positions are based at primary hubs in Minnesota, California, Colorado, Connecticut , and Massachusetts , with additional opportunities available in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, and Texas. Candidate location preferences are strongly considered during the interview and offer process; however, flexibility increases the number of potential opportunities available.

All interns must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.

Interns are expected to work onsite a minimum of 4 days per week and participate full time, 40 hours per week, as part of the intern cohort from June 1 through August 13 for semester system programs or June 14 through August 20 for quarter system programs.

- Working toward a bachelor's or master's degree in Biomedical Engineering , Mechanical Engineering , Electrical Engineering , Industrial Engineering , Materials Science & Engineering , Computer Engineering , or a related engineering discipline with an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027, Spring 2028, Winter 2028, or Spring 2029.

- Applicants for Medtronic's Summer Internship Program must be currently authorized to work in the United States. Medtronic does not sponsor work authorization for internship positions. - Prior experience in engineering design, testing, manufacturing, quality, data analysis, or product development through internships, academic projects, research, laboratory work, or relevant work experience.

- Experience with engineering software, programming, CAD, data analysis, or laboratory equipment.

- Experience creating technical documentation, lab oratory reports, project summaries, test reports, or engineering presentations.
