The Paramedic participates as a member of the nursing staff by performing various assessments, treatments and technical task as requested. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Paramedic assists with the delivery of non-critical and critical emergency care within the limits of his/her training, and documents that care in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
Assesses emergency patients and assigns appropriate triage level.
Collects and documents data on Emergency Department records including but not limited to vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, oxygen saturations, height/weight and peak flows).
May perform all procedures within the scope of the Paramedic license and as in accordance with hospital policies and at the direction of a provider, including:
cardiac monitoring including cardio version and defibrillation
initial care and treatment of burns as well as follow-up care and debridement § cleans and dresses wounds
patient teaching on the use of crutches, splints, dressings and wound care
Documents all assessment and care given in accordance to hospital policy.
Assists with emergency procedures including but not limited to a-line and chest tube insertion, lumbar punctures, thoracentesis and central lines.
Administer all medications listed and approved by the state for Paramedics.
Administer medications categories below that are not on the state list:
IV Piggy back antibiotics and antiemetics not currently on the approved state list.
High risk medications with a nurse serving as the second check
Initiate and complete Home Medication Lists and enter in EMR
Witness narcotic waste and serve as the second check for high risk medications and blood products.
Provide care and assistance as needed for critical care transports.
Attends and participates in hospital/departmental meetings as required.
Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
Demonstrates hospital’s stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer services provided
