Full job description

The Opportunity

Home is the first thing members see when they open the Hinge Health app. The Home Pod is responsible for making sure every member quickly finds the care they came for, and as a result, we sit on a critical business path for Hinge Health. In this role, you’ll own and evolve the core Home experience on our React Native app, using experimentation to deliver a delightful experience that reliably guides members into the right sessions and programs.

You’ll join a strong pod as the senior-most engineer, partnering closely with product, design, data, and backend teams to define the technical direction, raise the quality bar, and mentor others while shipping impactful improvements to one of our most visible product surfaces.

What You’ll Accomplish

Below are example impact areas over your first 3, 6, and 12 months. At Hinge Health, we regularly adjust priorities to respond to member needs and business incentives, so these are illustrative rather than fixed checklists.

In your first 3 months:
  • Build a deep understanding of the Home domain, member journeys, and how Home connects to core care experiences (sessions, programs, content).
  • Partner with product, design, and data to map the current Home funnel, identify key drop-offs, and prioritize experiments.
  • Ship meaningful improvements to our existing React Native Home experience, focusing on performance, reliability, and polish.
In your first 6 months:
  • Mentor and pair with engineers on the pod, helping them grow in mobile best practices, code quality, and experimentation mindset.
  • Continue to improve our new server-driven UI architecture for Home, collaborating with backend and platform teams to refine APIs, configuration models, and guardrails.
  • Deepen and participate in our existing experimentation and measurement framework for Home (e.g., A/B tests, feature flags, event instrumentation) to iterate on layouts, recommendations, and CTAs.
In your first year:
  • Own the long-term technical roadmap for the Home pod’s client architecture, balancing flexibility (through server configuration) with a responsive, native-quality member experience.
  • Drive cross-team initiatives to improve the end-to-end journey from Home through sessions and care plans, ensuring the surface reliably delivers business outcomes (session bookings, program engagement, retention).
  • Raise engineering standards on the pod (testing, observability, reliability, accessibility, performance) and help scale the team’s impact as the product and membership grow.
Who You Are
  • Mobile product craftsperson: You care deeply about core flows and how they feel in a member’s hand, from loading behavior and animations to edge cases and error states.
  • Experimentation-oriented: You’re comfortable defining hypotheses, designing experiments, instrumenting funnels, and iterating based on data and qualitative feedback.
  • Server-driven UI experience: You’ve designed or worked with server-configured experiences and know how to keep them fast, reliable, and intuitive for both members and internal stakeholders.
  • Team mentor and collaborator: You enjoy leveling up a strong but more junior team through pairing, code reviews, design discussions, and clear written communication.
  • Owner mindset: You think in terms of systems and business impact, not just tickets—you’re comfortable taking a problem from idea through launch, measurement, and iteration.
Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of practical software engineering experience, including building and shipping user-facing applications in production.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or foreign equivalent).
  • 2+ years of hands-on React Native experience building mobile applications at scale.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and implementing server-driven UI or configuration-driven presentation layers on mobile or other client platforms.
  • Track record of running experiments (e.g., A/B tests or multivariate tests) on core product surfaces and using results to drive roadmap decisions.
  • Strong proficiency with TypeScript/JavaScript, React Native, and modern mobile development tooling; familiarity with backend services (e.g., Node/TypeScript, GraphQL, or similar) is a plus.
  • Experience working on high-traffic, critical-path surfaces (e.g., home screens, discovery/navigation surfaces, or key funnels).
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow other engineers through code reviews, design collaboration, and technical guidance.
  • Comfort collaborating with product, design, and data/analytics partners to define metrics, interpret results, and refine experiences.
  • Experience in healthcare, consumer apps, or other regulated or data-sensitive environments is a plus.
