Battelle is seeking an experienced Network Systems Administrator to support classified information systems and network operations at our Columbus, OH facility. The selected candidate will play a critical role in maintaining the reliability, stability, security, and integrity of classified systems while ensuring compliance with applicable client, federal, and corporate requirements.
This position requires a technically skilled and detail-oriented professional who can support secure system operations, strengthen information assurance practices, and help sustain mission-critical classified computing environments.
- Develops, implements, and maintains information assurance and compliance activities for Department of War, Intelligence Community, and SAP client classified systems and networks, ensuring requirements are consistently applied in accordance with applicable federal, client, corporate, and contractual directives. - Develops and maintains security authorization documentation for moderately complex classified information systems, including Master System Security Plans, system profiles, control documentation, supporting artifacts, and compliance records required to support inspection readiness and authorization activities. - Supports Risk Management Framework activities by implementing, validating, and documenting security controls; tracking vulnerabilities and corrective actions; assisting with assessment preparation; and maintaining evidence to support ongoing authorization and continuous monitoring requirements. - Implements and communicates Battelle information system security procedures for classified media handling, system access, sanitization, reuse, destruction, incident reporting, malicious code protection, software compliance, user training, and corrective action follow-through. - Conducts periodic classified system reviews and self-inspections, identifies compliance gaps or operational risks, recommends corrective actions, and coordinates with ISSMs, FSOs, ISSOs, system administrators, and client representatives to ensure timely resolution. - Coordinates with client IT and security representatives to support system approvals, maintain operational continuity, resolve compliance or technical issues, and ensure system changes are appropriately documented and reviewed. - Leads or supports classified data spill response activities by identifying, containing, investigating, documenting, and coordinating sanitization and mitigation actions across affected locations, systems, and stakeholders. - Provides experienced information assurance support to internal teams and regional offices by advising on classified system compliance expectations, interpreting applicable security requirements, and supporting consistent implementation of approved procedures. - Maintains current knowledge of evolving cybersecurity, RMF, NISPOM, ICD 503, JSIG, NIST, DISA STIG, and client-specific requirements; applies this knowledge to improve system compliance, inspection readiness, and secure operational practices.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen - Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility - Bachelor's degree and/or 5 years of relevant experience as an IT systems administrator. - Possess strong demonstrated knowledge of Windows Server and Microsoft operating systems installation and configuration required. Experience with Linux systems considered a plus. - Experience with network systems administration, Active Directory, and GPO management is required. - Experience with switch, router, and firewall configuration is required. - Knowledge of ESXi virtualization and VMware required. - DoDD 8140 (8570.1-M) IAT Level 3 certification or ability to complete certification within the first 6 months of employment. - Ability to travel to local regional sites to provide support for on-premise networks/systems, and to attend meetings and training (less than 10 percent of time).
- Military veteran with relevant IT and computer security experience will be considered a plus. - Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is considered a plus. - Knowledge of NIST 800-53 and Risk Management Framework (RMF). - Experience with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), implementation SCAP Compliance Checker (SCC) and STIG Viewer.
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $81,600 - $116,300 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
