The Engineer is a fully independent mid-level individual contributor who is trusted to own complex work within their assigned areas. You will operate without guidance on most technical work, act as a subject matter expert within your projects, and contribute meaningfully to improving the team’s engineering capability through coaching and process improvement.

  • Lead implementation of complex, loosely scoped problems without guidance; exercise independent judgment on approach, trade-offs, and implementation decisions.
  • Write well-tested code and pipeline designs without guidance; provide technical guidance to other engineers on the team.
  • Act as a subject matter expert within your assigned projects and areas of work; ensure test coverage and deployment quality are consistently high.
  • Scope features independently for multi-week efforts; make confident technical decisions and validate assumptions with stakeholders where needed.
  • Learn and evaluate new technologies independently; recommend tools and approaches for team adoption.
  • Identify and surface technical debt; contribute to prioritization conversations about when and how to address it.
  • Debug and resolve issues as an SME; tackle complex or unfamiliar issues with a clear hypothesis and a path to resolution before escalating.
  • Persuade and negotiate with stakeholders to achieve the right outcomes; articulate complex technical information clearly across audiences.
  • Contribute to team direction; understand how broader business and technical priorities shape the work.
  • Coach less experienced engineers in tools, practices, and problem-solving approaches within your assigned areas.
  • Drive improvements to processes, knowledge, and engineering quality beyond your own assigned work.
  • BA/BS required (quantitative or engineering discipline preferred); MS a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, ML engineering, or a related field; relevant advanced degrees contribute to required years of experience.
  • Track record of independent delivery with evidence of enabling less experienced teammates.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; writes clean, well-tested code without guidance and provides guidance to others.
  • Solid experience with data pipeline development and ML workflows (feature pipelines, model inputs, data preparation); growing MLOps proficiency.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native platforms (Databricks preferred; AWS or Azure broadly).
  • Independently learns and evaluates new technologies; has recommended tools or approaches for team adoption.
  • Fully independent on most technical work; exercises good judgment consistently.
  • Actively contributes to team growth through knowledge sharing, coaching, and improving the quality of team execution.
  • Communicates clearly and persuasively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactively identifies problems and improvement opportunities.
