Position Summary...

What you'll do... Role summary: As a Principal Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including cloud-native architectures and AI/ML-integrated systems. This role involves driving the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, ensuring high availability, reliability, and performance.

You will provide strategic technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate complex business needs into effective technical solutions. Your expertise will support long-term platform evolution while fostering innovation and continuous improvement aligned with Walmart’s engineering vision.

About the team: Join the Walmart Marketplace Engineering team, where technology drives impactful solutions. The team enhances Seller and Channel Partner Portal experiences and manages a sophisticated Marketplace API gateway. Utilizing Java and ReactJS, they deliver scalable, cloud-native architectures and advanced platform capabilities.

Team members collaborate across functions to design, develop, and maintain reliable systems supporting millions of users. This environment promotes continuous improvement, technical excellence, and problem-solving, offering opportunities for professional growth and meaningful contributions to Walmart’s evolving digital ecosystem.

What you'll do:

  • Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable, cloud-native infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps.
  • Drive full software development lifecycle management, including design, testing, deployment, and maintenance of distributed systems.
  • Architect and integrate AI/ML-enhanced applications supporting high availability and real-time data processing.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, promoting engineering excellence and standardization across teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure technical ownership by delivering quality solutions and resolving issues proactively.
  • Foster continuous improvement through innovation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of best practices.
What you'll bring:
  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable and reliable cloud-native architectures.
  • Proven expertise in software development lifecycle management, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and incident response.
  • Strong proficiency in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using languages such as Python, Java, and C++.
  • Ability to apply model-driven design and leverage advanced development tools to enhance quality and velocity.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and mentorship skills, fostering engineering excellence and innovation.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on system interoperability and maintainability.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and adapting to evolving technologies and business needs.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00 - $264,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
