Full job description

The Integrated Design Engineering Organization is seeking a highly motivated Satellite Battery Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join the Space Mission Systems Satellite Engineering Team in El Segundo, California .

This candidate will be a part of a high-performing engineering team that is immersed in development and high non-recurring projects. The candidate will be accountable to provide all aspects of engineering support to the battery technology, which include battery pack design, manufacturing, test, delivery, anomaly support, etc.

The candidate will be required to work closely with our Battery and Solar Array Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) and Analysis team members as well as our partnering organizations from Systems Engineering, Stress, Dynamics, Materials & Processes, Production Engineering, Quality, and Supplier Management. This candidate will need to work closely with their respective Technical Lead Engineers, Management, and Program Leadership to support the program deliverables.

This role will include accountability for all Satellite Battery technologies supporting Government and Commercial Satellites with some additional support across other space applications. The candidate should have experience working with Battery and/or Solar Array technologies (battery cells, packs, integration, system requirements, etc).

The candidate must exemplify the Boeing Behaviors in day-to-day operations.

  • Lead design configurations by following regulatory and company approved processes and procedures.
  • Lead project planning and ensure execution on program commitments.
  • Develop mechanical system and component designs using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standards and/or other design methods, provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support fabrication, assembly and test of spacecraft mechanical systems products to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Contribute to supplier development, test and production activities to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Perform mechanical engineering with layouts, preliminary strength analysis to support trade studies, detailed design, testing requirements, materials, processes, and tools, define interfaces.
  • Document designs to meet requirements and objectives in support of product qualification and delivery.
  • Evaluate test data to validate components and systems against design requirements and objectives.
  • Develop new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Lead development of emerging technologies/concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Driving critical RCCA investigation and preparing/presenting Failure Review Board packages to internal and external customers. Work closely with chief engineers, program and functional leadership, and other SMEs to get alignment on proper containment, root cause, and corrective actions

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires a U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S.

Citizenship. Ability to Obtain U.S. Top Secret/SCI

  • Final Post-Start.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Level 4: Typically, 9 or more years' related work experience
  • Level 5: Typically, 9 or more years' related work experience
  • 3+years of experience in Solar Array and/or Battery Design and Manufacturing CREO design
