Southwire's Electrical Products Division (EP) is responsible for the strategic growth of various lines of electrical installation equipment, lifting and material handling equipment, electrical products, and rough electrical components. EP is looking for an experienced electrical engineer to take responsibility for designing and creating electrical/electronic hardware and firmware for commercial products based on product specifications and compliance requirements.
This experienced individual will interface directly with project management, product managers, and operations to take products from concept through production and provide support throughout their lifecycle.
- Develop electrical designs, schematics, or system layouts in accordance with engineering standards and project requirements including firmware for products such as AC power monitors and motor controllers.
- Develop design specifications and derived requirements based on applicable regulatory agencies and customer requirements.
- Ensure all engineering processes and protocols are followed for all assigned design projects to include FEA, DVP&R, DFMEA, design reviews, FAIR's, ECR and PRAPs.
- Create and perform verification tests based on product requirements and regulatory agency requirements such as UL, IEC, and FCC.
- Balance design based on cost, requirements, and time to market.
- Create prototypes for testing and evaluation.
- Develop certification plans for products and coordinate actual third-party certification units for testing in conjunction with Product Compliance Manager.
- Create manufacturing in-process test requirements and test sets as required.
- Prepare and maintain documentation and use configuration management system for keeping records of schematics, test results, changes, etc.
- Support product through lifecycle and supply chain issues.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 2+ years' experience or MSEE with 1+ years' experience.
- 2+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience is preferred.
- Proficient use of circuit simulation software and schematic/layout software, such as Altium Designer.
- Experience in power electronics and VFDs.
- Experience in design, prototyping, debugging, testing, and bringing products to manufacturing.
- Must work well within an interdisciplinary team consisting of mechanical, manufacturing, quality and other engineers.
- Working knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, etc.
- Experience designing to meet UL listing requirements.
- Some knowledge of Bluetooth and other wireless communication.
- Some knowledge of Electrical codes and wiring diagrams.
- Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Office, Project, Excel, PowerPoint
