Full job description

At 1Password, we put people first, and that starts with taking care of our own. As a Leave of Absence & Wellness Specialist on the Total Rewards team, reporting into the Senior Manager, Global Benefits, you'll play a critical role in supporting employees through some of the most significant moments of their lives, whether that's navigating a medical leave, welcoming a new family member, or working through a personal challenge that requires a workplace accommodation.

This is a global, individual contributor role, with broad scope and meaningful program ownership. You'll administer leave programs across all regions where 1Password operates, drive employee wellness initiatives that reflect our commitment to the whole person, and collaborate closely with our HR Business Partners, Legal, Payroll, and People Ops teams.

You'll be joining a team with a strong foundation, with the autonomy and mandate to improve, scale, and evolve what exists.

How we’re using AI today On the People team, we’re using AI intentionally and responsibly as part of how our work gets done. We’re building a shared foundation of AI confidence and capability with the belief that innovation happens best when we learn and experiment together. From drafting communications and synthesizing feedback to automating workflows across the employee lifecycle, we’re embedding AI into our day-to-day operations and the way we collaborate cross-functionally, helping us move quickly and create space for the human moments that matter most.

- 3–5 years of experience in Leave of Absence administration, workplace accommodations, and global wellness programs

- Experience navigating US and Canada leave regulations and compliance requirements, including exposure to federal, state, and provincial entitlements.

- Experience administering workplace accommodations under Canadian and US frameworks, including the Canadian Human Rights Act, ADA, and provincial human rights legislation, with familiarity in equivalent frameworks across other regions

- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive employee situations with empathy, discretion, and sound judgment

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of cases simultaneously without losing attention to detail

- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building structure where processes are still maturing

- Clear and compassionate communicator, able to translate complex policy and compliance requirements into plain language for employees and managers

- Experience partnering cross-functionally with HR Business Partners, Legal, Payroll, and Benefits to ensure seamless employee experiences

- Experience designing and administering global wellness programs, including vendor management, employee engagement initiatives, and program measurement

- Familiarity with UK leave entitlements, including statutory maternity, paternity, shared parental, and sick leave frameworks

- Experience supporting or contributing to the transition of LOA administration from a third-party vendor to an in-house model, including familiarity with the processes, documentation, SOPs, and systems involved.

- Experience working with insurer case management processes, including familiarity with cost containment strategies related to disability programs and their impact at renewal

- Experience supporting a global, remote-first workforce across the US, Canada, and EMEA

- Experience with HRIS platforms and leave management systems (e.g., UKG, Sparrow)

- A background that spans both LOA administration and broader benefits or people operations

- Bilingual in French and English, with the ability to support French-speaking employees across Canada

- Own end-to-end administration of leave of absence programs globally, including medical, parental, disability, bereavement, and other statutory or company leaves, ensuring consistent, compliant, and compassionate case management

- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and managers navigating leaves, providing timely guidance and maintaining confidentiality throughout

- Manage the workplace accommodations process, partnering with HR Business Partners and Legal to assess requests, facilitate the interactive process, and implement solutions

- Monitor regulatory changes affecting leave entitlements globally and ensure 1Password's programs and policies remain compliant and competitive

- Partner with Payroll, Benefits, and HR Ops to ensure leave pay calculations, benefit continuations, and system updates are handled accurately and on time

- Identify gaps in existing leave and accommodations infrastructure and proactively build scalable processes, documentation, and tooling to close them

- Design, coordinate, and execute employee wellness programs and initiatives that support physical, mental, and financial wellbeing across a global, remote-first workforce

- Manage wellness vendor relationships, ensuring programs are effective, utilized, and aligned to employee needs

- Identify opportunities to evolve wellness offerings as the company scales

- This is an individual contributor role & have meaningful ownership and autonomy over your programs

- Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and HR Ops, serving as a trusted resource for People Business Partners and managers navigating leave events and accommodation requests

- Support the development of a leave, accommodations, and wellness reporting framework, tracking key metrics such as utilization rates, return-to-work trends, and cost drivers

- Translate leave data into clear, accessible summaries for People leadership that connect program activity to broader workforce trends

- Own and maintain a regular reporting cadence (monthly, quarterly, annual) for People leadership leveraging established templates and frameworks.

- Comfortable working with data, including spreadsheets and pivot tables, to track leave trends and report on program activity
