Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy General Counsel III. The position provides the full range of specialized and complex legal services for LACOE, including preparing, filing, and presenting of legal cases to a court of law, judge, or magistrate; researching and providing legal consultation; conducting litigation; and writing legal briefs.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following Knowledge: Legal principles and practices, including civil, criminal, constitutional, contract, student discipline, youth in carceral settings, employment, special education, administrative and business law and procedures Methods, procedures and practices used in the conduct of litigation judicial procedures and rules of evidence Federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations and court decisions relating to public education, including provisions of the California Education Code Administrative Code, and Government Code Methods and practices of legal research Evaluation of practical consequences of legal strategies Principles of human resources, risk management, and fiscal impacts Principles and practices of public relations Artificial Intelligence tools Competencies: Critical Thinking - Analytically and logically evaluating information, propositions, and claims Decision Making - Choosing optimal courses of action in a timely manner Legal & Regulatory Navigation - Understanding, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations Professional & Technical Expertise - Applying technical subject matter to the job Oral Communication - Engaging effectively in dialogue Writing - Communicating effectively in writing Customer Focus - Attending to the needs and expectation of customers Influencing - Affecting or changing others' positions and opinions Relationship Building - Establishing rapport and maintaining mutually productive relationships Leadership - Guiding and encouraging others to accomplish a common goal Political & Organizational Savvy - Working skillfully with politics, procedures, and protocols across organizational levels and boundaries Project Management - Planning and tracking projects to ensure they are on-time, on-budget, and achieve their objectives Cultural Proficiency - Modeling communications and interactions that respect and include all individuals and their languages, abilities, religions, and cultures Required Education and Experience Education: A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.

Experience: Four years of experience as an attorney providing legal counsel to school districts, governmental agencies or public agency departments or five years of other legal experience in the practice of law. Additional

Requirements: Current membership in the California State Bar. A valid California driver's license and availability of private transportation or ability to provide transportation between job sites. Candidates who pass all exam parts are ranked according to overall exam score and placed on an eligibility (hiring) list. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks.
