Head Swim Coach (Encinitas) Location US-CA-Encinitas ID 2026-6784 Category Aquatics Position Type Part-Time Work Environment Type On-Site Overview Head Swim Coach The Head Swim Coach is responsible for the development, organization, and execution of the YMCA’s competitive swim team program, in full accordance with USA Swimming and organizational standards.

This role involves implementing progressive, technically sound training plans for athletes across all skill levels, ensuring workouts include proper preparation and cool-down activities.

The Head Swim Coach oversees team logistics, including scheduling and hosting meets, maintains safety and discipline during all activities, and is responsible for effective, positive communication with athletes and parents/guardians to foster growth, and sportsmanship within the swim team community.

For more on Employee Perks, click on this link: Employee Benefits | YMCA of San Diego County (ymcasd.org) Schedule: Part-Time - Must be available Mon-Fri from 3:45pm-6:15pm and occasional weekends Responsibilities Oversees the preparation and readiness of the swim workout area for daily practices and team events.

Leads structured warm-up and cool-down routines, incorporating swim-specific stretching and mobility exercises. Ensures a safe, disciplined, and focused training environment during swim practices and team gatherings such as competitions across various YMCA branches.

Schedules and hosts home and away swim meets in coordination with aquatics staff and participants. Assesses the individual needs of participants to support their development and competitive performance.

Provides clear instruction through technical demonstrations, detailed explanations, and corrective feedback during practices. Maintains effective communication with athletes and parents/guardians, offering guidance, performance updates, and encouragement in a warm, approachable manner.

Participate in ongoing professional development, including staff meetings and aquatics training. Guides swim coaches to ensure consistent delivery of coaching practices, training methods, and team standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications General: Minimum age of 18 years of age Education: Formal education, usually obtained by a High School Diploma/GED, or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance AND, Years of Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of work experience as a coach, instructor, or a combination of both in a swim or aquatics-related field AND, Minimum of two (2) years of experience in competitive swimming or aquatics-related field.

License & Certifications: Current Basic Life Support for the Professional Rescuer (BLS) that must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute Current First Aid certification and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety and Health Institute Must possess or have the ability to obtain Safety training for Swim Coaches certification within 6 months of hire Must possess or have the ability to obtain Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certification within 6 months of hire YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.
