Full job description

The Manager, Engineering leads the Advisor Hub product and the engineering team responsible for delivering the primary digital entry point into the advisor ecosystem. This leader is responsible for the technology strategy, execution, and continuous evolution of advisor experiences that provide seamless access to the tools, insights, workflows, and services advisors use to serve clients and grow their business.

The Manager provides technical leadership, establishes engineering standards and delivery practices, and is accountable for delivering secure, scalable, and high-quality software aligned to business outcomes. Success in this role requires a combination of strong people leadership, technical credibility, product partnership, and a passion for engineering excellence.

The ideal candidate brings deep Salesforce platform experience combined with broader software engineering expertise across technologies such as Java, JavaScript, React, APIs, cloud platforms, and enterprise integration patterns. This leader champions modern software engineering practices including DevOps, CI/CD, automation, observability, security, and continuous improvement while building a high-performing engineering organization.

Technical Leadership & Architecture Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across the Advisor Hub platform. Lead architecture and design discussions to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable. Review solution designs, technical proposals, and code to ensure engineering quality and alignment with enterprise standards.

Guide engineering teams in selecting appropriate technologies, frameworks, and build-versus-buy decisions. Stay technically current and maintain credibility through active participation in engineering discussions and solution reviews. Engineering Delivery Partner closely with Product Management and UX to translate business outcomes into well-designed technical solutions.

Establish engineering standards, delivery practices, and technical roadmaps aligned to organizational priorities. Champion Agile product development practices and continuously improve engineering execution. Remove organizational and technical impediments that impact team delivery.

Drive consistent, predictable delivery of high-quality software. Engineering Excellence & DevOps Champion modern engineering practices including CI/CD, Git-based source control, automated testing, observability, monitoring, alerting, and deployment automation. Define and continuously improve software development lifecycle processes.

Promote secure software development, code quality, technical debt reduction, and operational excellence. Monitor application health, production stability, and performance while ensuring appropriate prioritization of reliability improvements. Serve as an escalation point for complex production issues and incident response.

Collaboration & Product Partnership Build strong partnerships with Product Management, UX, Architecture, and business stakeholders. Align engineering priorities with organizational objectives and product strategy. Foster collaboration across engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions across the advisor ecosystem.

Represent technology considerations during roadmap planning and investment discussions. Influence product direction by identifying opportunities enabled through technology innovation. People Leadership Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing engineers.

Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance conversations, and career development planning. Foster a culture of psychological safety, accountability, continuous learning, and engineering excellence. Encourage innovation, knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Build an inclusive, collaborative environment where individuals are empowered to do their best work. Vendor & Technology Management Evaluate technology platforms and vendor solutions. Guide platform selection decisions based on business value, scalability, security, and long-term maintainability.

Manage technology vendor relationships supporting the Advisor Hub platform.

Qualifications & Skills Required Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent work experience. 3+ years of experience designing, developing, and delivering enterprise applications on Salesforce Sales Cloud, including a strong understanding of Salesforce platform capabilities, Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), security, data model, integration patterns, and modern DevOps practices including Git-based source control, automated CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.

5+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise applications using modern technologies such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, APIs, OpenShift, AWS, or similar cloud-native technologies. 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in Information Technology, including software engineering, application development, product delivery, or related disciplines.

3+ years leading engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and talent development. Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise software using Agile product delivery methodologies. Experience guiding architecture decisions and maintaining technical credibility through code reviews, design reviews, and engineering leadership.

Demonstrated success implementing modern engineering practices including DevOps, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, monitoring, and operational excellence. Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and business stakeholders. Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with execution while leading multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred MBA or advanced technical degree. Financial services or wealth management industry experience. Experience leading engineering teams within a product operating model.

Experience incorporating AI capabilities, generative AI, or intelligent automation into enterprise applications. Experience working within large enterprise and matrix organizations. Experience with technology strategy, portfolio planning, and business relationship management.

Experience remaining hands-on when appropriate through prototyping, troubleshooting, or technical coaching. The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $139,455.00 - $188,676.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
