What you'll do... Role summary: Walmart is seeking a Distinguished Software Engineer to lead the design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered systems. This role requires ownership of system-level execution, ensuring architectural integrity and operational excellence across platforms.

The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement, mentor engineering teams, and champion best practices in software development and DevOps. Collaborating across teams, they will deliver reliable, maintainable solutions aligned with enterprise standards while fostering innovation and technical excellence to support Walmart’s strategic objectives and customer-focused mission.

About the team: This highly visible team leads the next evolution in advertising technology by building VIZIO’s first agentic advertising platform. The team focuses on AI-powered buyer agents that discover, evaluate, and purchase inventory, delivering significant business impact. Members collaborate across engineering, advertising platforms, and product teams to address complex challenges at the intersection of AI, advertising, and large-scale media buying.

The team emphasizes scalable, cloud-native architecture and operational excellence, fostering innovation and problem-solving to create reliable, extensible systems that advance the future of media purchasing technology. What you'll do:

  • Lead design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered systems and intelligent automation solutions.
  • Translate domain strategies into system-level implementations, ensuring architectural integrity and reliability.
  • Drive operational excellence through code reviews, incident analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Champion DevOps and CI/CD practices to maintain resilient, observable, and performant services.
  • Mentor engineers across teams, promoting high standards in design, testing, and delivery.
  • Identify and resolve architectural bottlenecks, enhancing system scalability and developer experience.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to align technical decisions with business objectives.
  • Proven expertise in designing and building scalable, cloud-native software systems and AI-powered agents.
  • Strong technical leadership with experience owning system-level execution and architectural integrity.
  • Deep knowledge of operational excellence, including DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and incident management.
  • Ability to translate domain strategies into actionable system implementations across teams.
  • Skilled in debugging, problem solving, and driving continuous improvement in tools and processes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of high standards and innovation.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Commitment to delivering reliable, maintainable, and secure software solutions aligned with business goals.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area, We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
