Full job description

HPE Networking is a leader in AI-driven, next-generation networking solutions that help organizations modernize their infrastructure and securely connect people, applications, and data. Our networking portfolio powers some of the world's largest enterprise, cloud, and service provider environments through innovative hardware and software platforms.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our platform software team responsible for developing the low-level software that powers HPE-Juniper routing platforms. This is an excellent opportunity for engineers who enjoy working at the hardware-software boundary, building device drivers, programming network processors (NPUs) and ASICs, and enabling next-generation networking systems.

In this role, you will contribute to the development of high-performance networking platforms, working closely with hardware, firmware, and systems engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions for next-generation routing products.

- Design, develop, and maintain embedded platform software and firmware for networking systems.

- Develop low-level software, device drivers, and system components for Linux-based networking platforms.

- Program and enable Network Processors (NPUs), ASICs, and other platform hardware.

- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including architecture, design, implementation, testing, debugging, and sustaining engineering.

- Develop functional specifications, software designs, and unit test plans.

- Bring up new hardware platforms and support board-level integration and validation.

- Troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues using advanced debugging techniques and tools.

- Collaborate closely with hardware, systems, firmware, and architecture teams to deliver high-quality networking products.

- Contribute to continuous improvements in software quality, performance, and reliability.

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.

- 10+ years of professional experience developing embedded software or firmware.

- Extensive experience developing embedded software in Linux or Unix environments.

- Hands-on experience developing software for networking platforms, including routers or switches.

- Experience developing device drivers and system-level software.

- Experience bringing up new hardware platforms and supporting hardware validation.

- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills using software, hardware, and memory analysis tools.

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional engineering teams.

- Experience with Ethernet interfaces, high-speed PHYs, SERDES, and networking hardware.

- Knowledge of hardware board design and board-level architecture.

- Experience with PCIe, I2C, FPGA, Ethernet MAC/PHY, and other high-speed interfaces.

- Experience with chassis management, interface management, and platform management software.

- Experience programming NPUs, ASICs, or other networking silicon.

- Knowledge of large-scale networking systems and carrier-grade platforms.

- Build software powering next-generation enterprise and service provider networking platforms.

- Work at the intersection of embedded systems, networking, and advanced silicon technologies.

- Collaborate with highly experienced engineers across hardware and software disciplines.

- Contribute to innovative networking solutions supporting AI-driven infrastructure and cloud-scale environments.

- Grow your technical expertise while working on industry-leading routing platforms and technologies.
