ENERGY AND MINERAL RESOURCES ENGINEER

• Willingness to travel by vehicle, ocean vessel, or helicopter to access different facilities or drilling sites.
• Operate a personal or State vehicle to travel on official State business; must have valid California driver's license.
• Must be able to pass swing rope test and be certified.
• Must be able to pass H2S training and be able to wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the State Lands Commission policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense. The successful candidate may initially be required to be in the office at a greater frequency than the mandatory 2 days per week for onboarding and training purposes.

Under the close supervision of the Senior Mineral Resources Engineer, the Energy and Mineral Resources Engineer assists within the Operations Section, providing assistance to engineering and inspection of State managed oil, gas, and geothermal, renewable energy, and mineral leases. The incumbent performs the less complex field inspections, engineering evaluations, and compliance assessments; coordinates the less technical activities with peers and inspectors; and assists in representing the State Lands (Commission) in interactions with operators, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

This position does not supervise staff but provides mentoring and less technical support to lower-level personnel. This position is required to have a valid CA driver’s license and drive a vehicle on official State business. Note: Posted salaries do not reflect the 2 - 4.62% pay reduction in exchange for 3.5 – 8 hours per month of leave arising from the Personal Leave Program 2025.

This position is required to have a valid CA driver’s license and drive a vehicle on official State business. New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable.
