Full job description

Position Overview

Kiewit is looking for mid-career Building Structural Engineers who can independently execute the analysis, design, and detailing of structural systems for mid- to large-scale vertical construction projects. In this role, you'll apply advanced engineering judgment, perform complex calculations, develop refined structural models, and run detailed simulations to validate performance under a wide range of loading conditions.

You'll work with minimal supervision, driving technical quality, constructability, and code compliance while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and buildable designs that align with Kiewit's design-build execution model.

District Overview

Kiewit Architectural & Engineering (KAE) delivers fully integrated design and engineering solutions for some of North America's most complex and high visibility infrastructure, energy and building programs. Working hand in hand with Kiewit's construction operations, the group provides coordinated Progressive Design Build (PDB), Design Build (DB), Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) and other alternative delivery models, that reduces risk, accelerates delivery, and drives innovative, cost-effective outcomes.

Powered by a multidisciplinary team of architects, engineers, and designers, KAE focuses on creating high performance, sustainable facilities across key growth markets including Power, Industrial, Nuclear, Federal, Aviation, Mission Critical, Healthcare, Education, Sports & Entertainment, and Commercial Buildings. The team supports sophisticated projects in sectors such as government, nuclear, transportation/transit and education, delivering scalable, forward-looking solutions tailored to each client's operational, regulatory, and long-term needs.

Location

These positions can be based out of any of the following offices: Woodcliff Lake NJ, Manhattan NY or Lone Tree Colorado offices, with occasional travel to other Kiewit offices and project sites.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities

- Provide advanced structural design and analysis of mid-sized and large projects with minimal supervision.

- Apply a strong knowledge of building codes and structural behavior to perform advanced structural analysis.

- Utilize an understanding of construction practices to establish design and/or repair scope recommendations for structures of various constructions.

- Perform advanced structural calculations, modeling, and simulations to ensure designs meet regulatory standards and project specifications.

- Evaluate design drawings and documentation such as quality control reviews for the assurance of sound and constructable designs.

- Produce designs, plan production, building layout/profiles, specifications, and construction documents.

- Coordinate with other disciplines and engineers to ensure cohesive and innovative design solutions.

- Provide engineering services during construction in the form of reviewing submittals, requests for information (RFI's) and field non-conformance reports (NCR's).

- Conduct site visits and inspections and propose solutions to structural challenges in consultation with a senior structural engineer.

- Act as a mentor to junior engineers while fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

- Willing to travel, as needed.

Qualifications
Qualifications

- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program is required.

- Must possess an active professional Engineering License or the ability to obtain a license within one year. (Company will pay for additional licenses).

- 6+ years Structural Engineering experience in design and analysis, and/or project engineering in facilities/buildings/structures with strong structural analysis skills including wind and seismic design of building superstructures.

- Broad background with various building system types (which may include but not limited to, steel, concrete, masonry, wood, roofing and building envelopes). Applicant should possess the desire and ability to work and a variety of different project types.

- Knowledge of national building and construction codes (ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS, etc.)

- Experience with Design/Build, EPC or other alternative delivery projects desired, or experience working with multiple types of construction in some capacity (resident engineering) is a big plus.

- Well versed in the use of structural analysis tools, such as; SAP2000, ETABS, RAM Structural System, SAFE or RISA

- Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

- Supplementary field experience in addition to design experience including inspection and/or construction management.

- Well versed in BIM and CAD software including Revit, AutoCAD and similar.

- Experience in providing engineering services during the construction phase is highly desirable. Experience with EPC/D/B or other alternative project delivery methods.

- Experience in Aviation/Transportaiton, Sports Facilities, and Hospitals highly desired

Base

Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and location)
