NOTICE OF FILING OF APPLICATION FOR PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT CERTIFICATION
An application for permanent labor certification for the position described below will be filed by Norfolk Southern Corporation with the U.S. Department of Labor.
Norfolk Southern Corporation is seeking a Full-Stack Application Developer based in Atlanta, Georgia. This position will be responsible for the overall application design and development of critical application components using Microfocus Cobol and Microsoft .NET. This individual will take part in the development of cutting-edge web applications solving challenging business needs.
This position will build solutions from the ground up, starting with investigating design approaches, prototyping new solutions, and evaluating technical feasibility. This individual will be responsible for all aspects of development including design, development, testing, and maintenance of key systems. This position will work in a dynamic environment to deliver a forward-looking user experience while maintaining high-quality software.
This position requires domestic travel approximately 2% of the time. When not required to travel, this individual will be required to telecommute to the office in alignment with Norfolk Southern's office/remote - hybrid work policy, which requires in-office presence every work week.
- Deliver innovative, engaging web and desktop applications using the latest software technologies. - Fulfill several project requests simultaneously while working in a fast-paced environment. - Work with business partners and outside vendors to collect and confirm project business requirements. - Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders. - Identify design problems and devise solid technical solutions. - Take smart risks and champion new ideas. - Conduct system wide requirement analysis and work effort estimations. - Collaborate closely with the Project Manager, Architects, and Business Analysts. - Thoroughly understand the requirements and ability to develop detailed software designs. - Use best practices and coding standards. - Participate in peer-reviews and provide feedback. - Provide accurate and detailed weekly task reports. - Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, enhance, and document components developed by self and others as per the requirements and detailed design.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related, relevant field (equivalent foreign degree accepted).
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience in an application development role. This experience must include at least six (6) years of experience: o Using Microfocus Cobol and .NET technologies for application development; o Applying data modeling and database programming skills (utilizing IBM DB2 or a comparable relational database environment); o Working with agile methodologies (i.e., Scrum); o Working with UML and design patterns; and o Working with containerized application environments (utilizing RedHat OpenShift or other similar platforms).
- Demonstrated knowledge of: o Networks, firewalls, load balancers, and related concepts; o Microfocus Cobol, including data structures, algorithms, enterprise systems, and asynchronous architectures; o Web services software architecture and design (REST/SOAP), including security-based implementations; o Tricentis - Tosca (test automation); o HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and/or front-end frameworks; and o Continuous integration tools such as Jenkins, Nexus, JUnit, Selenium, SonarQube, Maven, Gradle, Ant, SVN, GIT, Puppet, and/or Chef.
- Demonstrated ability to: o Build, manage, and foster a team-oriented environment; o Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment; and o Troubleshoot issues and provide solutions.
