Staff Software Engineer, Tax Engineering

- Build microservices, APIs to drive platform integrations across web and mobile platforms.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build interfaces and systems that can evolve to meet critical business needs.

- Build our platforms--infrastructure, applications and tools, and gain expertise in distributed systems, large compute clusters and petabyte-scale storage infrastructure.

- Be part of an impactful team working on scaling distributed applications in a highly-available 24x7 environment, make architectural trade-offs applying design patterns and disciplined execution.

- Bachelor's degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent practical experience.

- 9+ years industry experience.

- Prior real-word experience and demonstrable knowledge in any of Java, Kotlin, Relational Database and distributed systems.

- Experience leading teams through technical discussions, mentoring other engineers, and driving engineering excellence across team boundaries.

- Proven ability to work closely with partner teams to build alignment on key architectural decisions and trade-offs, guiding the org toward effective and scalable solutions.

- Exposure to architectural patterns of high-scale web applications, such as well-designed APIs, data pipelines and efficient algorithms.

- Experience or desire to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams with design, product and data science partners.

- Familiarity with AI development tools.

- Strong understanding of systems reliability, including observability, incident management, and building fault-tolerant services.

- Experience managing engineers, or a strong interest in growing into people leadership over time

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. While the position is Remote Eligible, you must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity.
