We offer our Graduate Registered Nurses clinical instruction and additional learning opportunities as they complete the Nurse Residency program.

The Hospital of Central Connecticut is an acute-care community teaching hospital, we provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in general medicine and surgery, as well as a wide variety of specialties. The Critical Care Unit at the Hospital of Central Connecticut is a 24-bed unit, all comprised of private rooms. The staff includes Registered Nurses, Nurse Assistants, Administrative Support Staff, with attending Physicians and Mid-level providers available 24-7. Our unit is equipped with the highest levels of technology including Electronic Patient Records.

Our staff works in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams in a patient centered care model in a richly diverse work space.

Job Summary

Under the general direction of Nursing Leadership and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, and policies and procedures of the hospital. This position develops a plan of care for complex, multi-varianced population of patients, which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of the patient and family.

Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Associate's degree in Nursing.
  • Successful completion of nurse residency, if applicable.
Experience
  • One year of experience with a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical experience as a licensed registered nurse.
  • Experience of IV/line placement required. ACLS certified.
  • 1 - 3 yr CCU experience required/med-surgical experience
  • GNR considered
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse, State of CT
  • Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Additional certifications may be required in specific specialties
Language Skills

Must be able to effectively communicate information in English.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
  • Applies the principles and practices of nursing.
  • Membership in a professional nursing organization preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, deliver and evaluate patient care.
  • Cares for a full patient assignment with expanding scope of responsibilities over time.
  • Knowledge of high reliability.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.
  • Strong knowledge of and demonstrated skills in providing care for age specific populations.
  • Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to act as a preceptor and charge nurse as needed.
  • Self-directed in clinical responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple clinical priorities.
  • Strong computer skills and use of industry applications/programs. Ability to learn new technology and programs as advancements and changes are implemented.
