Full job description

- Design and develop avionics mounting architectures, including shock and vibration isolation, structural load paths, serviceability, and connector access.

- Own avionics enclosure and electronics packaging design with a strong emphasis on practical EMI/EMC mitigation techniques such as grounding/bonding strategies, shielding effectiveness, cable entry management, conductive gasketing, filtered connectors, and enclosure seam design.

- Design and release wire harnesses, including routing, connector selection, strain relief, bend-radius compliance, abrasion protection, shielding termination, grounding schemes, and maintainability.

- Support avionics thermal integration by developing conductive and convective heat rejection paths, component-level thermal budgets, and validating performance through testing.

- Develop and execute environmental qualification testing for integrated avionics assemblies, including vibration, shock, thermal cycling, ingress protection, and support for EMI/EMC testing.

- Work cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, systems, manufacturing, and test teams to manage packaging constraints, connector interfaces, harness architecture, grounding schemes, and hardware bring-up through flight qualification.

- Contribute to test plans, technical documentation, and engineering reviews.

- Ability to support critical project milestones, including working extended hours or weekends when required.

- 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on avionics integration, electronics packaging, or wire harness design (professional, academic, or hobby/project experience considered).

- Strong experience with 3D CAD tools (e.g., NX, SolidWorks, or equivalent) for mechanical design and detailed drawings.

- Practical experience with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques, enclosure design, and wire harness routing/integration.

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

- Demonstrated hands-on experience owning end-to-end hardware development and integration efforts (e.g., student aerospace/rocketry teams, UAV projects, automotive electronics integration, or similar).

- Experience with environmental qualification testing (vibration, shock, thermal, IP testing).

- Working knowledge of thermal management best practices for electronics.

- Familiarity with lightweight materials, additive manufacturing, or composites for aerospace applications.

- Experience collaborating closely with electrical engineering teams on connector selection, grounding, and shielding.

- Knowledge of aerospace or defense standards and requirements for avionics integration.
